Insomnia Sucks!

It's almost 6 in the morning and I haven't slept yet. It's one of those weird things where I know I'm tired, but I can't convince myself to lay in bed and close my eyes. I just wish I could motivate myself to do something more constructive with my concious time than just surf the web.

Tempered Excitement

I have a telephone interview with Uline this coming Thursday. It's an advertisment assistant job and it's reasonably close by. Let's hope this one pans out.

Snow!

Lots of it. About 16 inches in fact. I hate digging my car out of it. I hate driving in it. But I'll be damned if it ain't pretty. It was like I was experiencing Robert Frost's "Stopping by Snowy Woods" A very zen moment for me.

Random thought of the day-I reread the last posting on my girlfriend's web journal. I've asked questions, but she doesn't want to share with me at the moment. I can respect her wishes, but I do have my concerns and I know my imagination has a fondness of dreaming up worst case scenarios. But hey, deep down we all have our own insecurities. The true test is how one deals with them.

Some People Just Don't Get It.

I bumped a woman coming off 43 and Holt. I was going slow and being careful, but my wheels just didn't catch.
So the woman hops out of her car and starts screaming at me with a thick russian/slavic accent. At this point, I knew that this was going to get intersting.

We pull over to a side street and inspect our cars. Thankfully, there is no damage to either vehicle. So, I begin the customary exhange of information-name, insurance info etc... But when I ask her for her information, she refuses to give it to me.

"You hit me, I don't have to give you anything," is what she kept repeating. I'm sorry, but that's not how it works. At that point I got the sneaking suspicion that she's either a)without license or insurance or b) an illegal. I did however get a name out of her, but I failed to get the license plate of the car. The important thing was nobody got hurt, but she was awfully paranoid about something very minor.

Anywho, I called my insurace agent and left a message explaining the situation. I'm pretty sure nothing will come of this, but I want to make sure that all my bases are covered.

Take a look

A small sampling of some of my poetry. I invite you all to take a look and enjoy. Any and all feedback will be welcome. It's the only way that I'll get better at this thing.

Also be on the lookout for a short story that I will be posting on the sight within the week. It's an old story of mine and I'm going to apply a liberal amount of spit and polish before I post it.

Again, drop on in anytime and I hope you enjoy.

Walking Dogs Can Be Deadly

Well, maybe not deadly, but it certainly can hurt from time to time. I got a call from my mom this morning and she said the dog beat her up. Mind you, they have a little yap-yap dog (a Shi Tzu, I think I'm spelling that correctly) with an aversion to physical activity, so naturally I was curious how it happened.

It turns out that Trixie (the dog-I didn't name her) bolted in front of my mother suddenly causing her to trip. The result-a busted lip and a wicked bruise on the right side of her face. While I couldn't help but chuckle a little, and am glad that both mom and dog are all right and able to laugh about it.

She's back, I'm back

After a 10 day visit to jolly old england, my girlfriend is coming back stateside. I'm going to pick her up at the train station this evening and I am very excited to see her again. I talked with her last friday and though she sounded very tired on the phone, I could tell that she was happy. I just hope that she can take some of that postive energy back with her and hold onto it during the upcoming semester. It's going to be tough, I know that she's up for the challenge. She just doesn't show it all the time.

Speaking of challenges, I've decided to give myself one, and I have my friends to thank for it. I received a business card holder complete with buisness cards as a christmas present. On the card it read "Al Josef, Writer." Simple, huh? Simple enough to make me realize that I've been neglecting a big part of myself.

I AM A WRITER.

That's what I am, not just a journalist or data entry monkey. I need to write more whether it be fiction, poetry, non-fiction or whatever. Since college, I've shied away from fiction and poetry and other artistic forms of writing because I felt that I didn't stand a chance making a living that way. That still my be true, but I still feel the desire to express myself on the written page and so that's what I'm going to do, for at least an hour each day, beyond what I normally do with my blog.

So here's to putting the poet back into samurai poet.

If Life Had a Soundtrack...

It's funny how small everyday things can have an effect on a person. Take this morning for example.

I'm working on this database project for my friend in Minnesota, and to help me combat the drugerey I decided to fire up the mp3 player on my computer. I skim over the various playlists I have compliled over the years and decided that I'm not really in the mood for any of them. So I just hit random play and off I went. And I'll be damned at what happened next.

It was if some director had read my biography and was putting the soundtrack together for the film adaptation. As the songs played, I began to think about people, events, and places that I haven't thought about in years--some of them bad, most of them good, and a few memories that I hope that I can hold onto for the rest of my life.

That's why I write, so I never forget.

New Year

I'm no longer selling insurance. My girlfriend is in England for the next two weeks, and now I'm all out of soda. Not a bad thing, but I'm really jonesing for a caffeine fix.
